Odoo behind the shop, or Odoo as the shop. One rule decides.

If Shopify is how you are winning, it stays. If there is no such shop, Odoo can be the shop. Either way, the order, the stock and the invoice end up in one system.

The Shopify rule

Two cases, and we tell you which one you are.

Shopify is winning

Shopify stays. Odoo sits behind it.

Shopify, Shopify Plus and Shop Pay doing real revenue stay exactly where they are. Odoo runs the stock, fulfilment, purchasing and invoicing behind the store, fed by a standard connector before any custom code.

No such shop

Odoo can be the shop.

No online store yet, or one that is not how you win. Odoo's shop runs on the same database as the stock and the books.

  • Trade pricing and a B2B portal.
  • Wholesale ordering.
  • Click and collect against real stock.
  • Loyalty shared with the till.
  • A straightforward catalogue shop.
Not sure

The assessment says which.

A neglected Shopify store is not the same thing as one doing real revenue on Shop Pay. We look at what the shop actually does for you before anyone suggests moving it, and we write the answer down.

Why one system

Four definitions of a product, or one.

Today

The shop, the stock app, the accounting package and a spreadsheet each hold their own version of a product: the price, the stock, the cost, the description. Every change is made four times, or not at all, and the stock figure depends on who you ask.

With one system behind it

One product record. The price the customer sees, the stock the warehouse counts and the cost the accounts value come from the same place. If Shopify stays, the connector feeds it stock and takes its orders back, so the store stops being a separate source of truth.

Who it's for

Businesses that take orders and hold stock.

A good fit

  • Wholesale, retail, or both, with stock you have to count and value.
  • Roughly 30 to 500 users across sales, warehouse, finance and service.
  • Orders arriving through more than one door: a shop, a rep, email, a trade portal, a till.

What "the books" means here

The order, the stock valuation and the invoice, and the accounts they post to. It does not mean payroll, Single Touch Payroll or pay runs, unless that is scoped in writing.

What we don't promise

Said plainly.

  • We won't tell you to move a Shopify store that is winning onto Odoo.
  • We don't promise that an Odoo shop matches a Shopify theme or checkout feature for feature.
  • We don't sell a catalogue of modules. The scope names what switches on and why.
